How it works

Four steps, all in the app: from the seller, across Linz, to you.

    Where from, where to

    Set the pickup and drop-off address, both within about 15 km of the centre of Linz. Choose small, medium or large, each with its fixed price. Now, or later: from 30 minutes to 5 days ahead.

    A driver comes

    A driver nearby with a van of that size takes the order; you see who is coming. You and your helpers load, the driver secures the load.

    On the way

    The driver drives, you see the van on the map. A detour or a longer route does not change the fixed price.

  4. 4

    Unload and pay

    At the drop-off you unload. Your card is charged only at the end; the receipt is in the app.

Three van sizes

An order goes first to drivers with a van of the size you chose; if none is free, a bigger van may come, at the price of your size.

For drivers

Drive with Portovan

You have a transport van and a trade licence? Drivers are independent businesses: you decide when you go online, and you see your earning before you accept an order.

Portovan keeps 23 % of the fare and waiting; the rest is your earning, shown on every offer. Tips are yours in full.

Become a driver Terms for drivers
  • Orders nearby, matched to your van size
  • Declining an offer is always allowed, at no disadvantage
  • A monthly statement and payout by bank transfer (SEPA) to your account
  • In Austria: driving licence B, vehicle registration, vehicle insurance, trade licence (GISA) and carrier liability insurance (Verkehrshaftung)
  • Straps and blankets in the van: you secure the load and take a photo of it before driving

Questions

Does the driver help carry?

No. You load and unload with your own helpers; the driver drives the van.

Where does Portovan work?

In the pilot city Linz: pickup and drop-off within about 15 km of the centre. More cities later.

Can the price change after I book?

The fare is fixed when you book; a detour or a longer route does not change it. Only waiting time adds to it: 15 minutes are free at pickup and again at drop-off.

How do I pay?

By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay in the app. When you book, the amount plus a buffer of 30 % for waiting time is reserved on your card; only the final price is charged at the end.

Can I cancel?

Free until 2 minutes after a driver accepted. Later, or if the driver waits at pickup in vain, a cancellation fee applies (see Prices).

Are my items insured?

Every Portovan driver has carrier's liability insurance for their liability as the carrier (CMR). By law, liability is limited to about €10 per kg, except for intent or gross negligence. Keep cash, jewellery and important documents with you.

What happens to my data?

Portovan keeps only what a trip needs, shows your phone number to the driver only during a trip, and has no ads or tracking. Details in the privacy notice.
